  • Dordan’s Sustainability Coordinator has been nominated for the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s Executive Committee! If nominated, Dordan will serve for three years and attend monthly meetings, acting as a representative for packaging converters to the industry-working group.

 

  • Dordan’s has been invited to exhibit at United Industries’ 5th Annual Internal Trade Show in St. Louis on Monday, August 30th and Tuesday, August 31st. United Industries is a subsidiary of Spectrum Brands, which is a global consumer products company and a leading supplier of batteries, personal care products, specialty pet supplies, lawn & garden and home pest control products, and more! This is Dordan’s first time exhibiting at this event; we hope to see some of you there!

 

  • Dordan’s President and CEO Dan Slavin will give his first interview in over 15 years to PlasticsNews reporter Dan Hockensmith about Dordan’s new sustainability efforts! Look for the interview in print in the coming months!

 

  • Dordan’s Sustainability Coordinator just completed a report on recycling clamshells and blister in America. This report is a compilation of a year of research and will be accessible on our website under the clamshell recycling initiative. This report is also to be published in PlasticsNews; more details to come!

 

  • Dordan’s search for the “perfect” bio-based plastic continues! We are now sampling two NEW compostable films! Unlike PLA and BIOGRAPH.ics, however, these new films are certified to biodegrade in other disposal environments besides industrial composting facilities, such as natural soil and water environments and in home composting systems!

 

  • Dordan is now a member of the Global Packaging Project, which is an industry wide organization that looks to develop a global metric for assessing the sustainability of a given package. The GPP grew out of the Consumer Goods Forum and incorporates the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s recently released “Metrics of Sustainable Packaging” and the metrics of the Walmart Scorecard in the compilation of an overarching governance on packaging and sustainability assessment. The next meeting is in October in Paris; we hope to see you there!

 

  • Our Sustainability Coordinator has been invited to be a contributing writer to the blog on SupplierHub.com, which is an online knowledge exchange for direct suppliers to Walmart! While this site will not be accessible to those outside the Walmart community, it will provide Dordan with the opportunity to generate dialogue with a specific audience about issues pertaining to packaging and sustainability.

 

  • Dordan has submitted more packages to the greenerpackage.com database for packaging suppliers! Check out our packages under the Clamshell, POP Display, Blister pack, and Tray packaging type categories OR just search our name to see our full listing!

 

  • Our Sustainability Coordinator is now the co-lead of the PET subcommittee of Walmart-Canada’s Material Optimization Committee! Hopefully she will be able to help Walmart-Canada reach their goal of zero waste for PET packaging post-consumer, both bottle grade and thermoform grade.

 

  • Dordan is attending the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s members-only meeting in Texas in the fall!

 

  • Dordan’s clamshell recycling initiative is picking up steam! Our Sustainability Coordinator has an appointment with our city official to learn about the economics governing waste management in our region.   • Our Sustainability Coordinator has been invited to participate in Walmart-Canada’s Material Optimization Committee, which looks to increase the recovery rates of several hard-to-place materials post-consumer. She holds a chair on the PET subcommittee, with an emphasis in the end of life management of PET/RPET thermoforms. The next meeting she is scheduled to attend is June 9th in Ontario!

 

  • Dordan passes the application to exhibit at the Walmart and Sam's Club 5th Annual Sustainable Packaging Expo in Bentonville, Arkansas!   

 

  • Dordan is now thermoforming packages from an agricultural based feedstock produced with 100% renewable energy as certified by the supplier via an EPA Green Power Partner and certified as compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute and the United States Composting Council. This material meets the ASTM D6400 Standard meaning it can be composted in a municipal or industrial composting facility; these facilities are limited and may not be available in your area.

 

  • Dordan is now thermoforming packages out of supplier-certified 100% post-consumer regrind PET!

 

  • Our Sustainability Coordinator was interviewed by a career counselor from Angeles Career Consulting about how to infuse green practices into careers. This interview will be available in print later this year. Stay tuned for details!

 

  • Dordan Mfg. applied to exhibit at the 5th annual Walmart Sustainable Packaging Expo, scheduled April 5th and 6th of 2010.

 

  • Dordan is going to the spring meeting of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition in Boston; we hope to see you there!

 

  • Dordan now uses Litco's Inca Presswood shipping pallets that are certified as "Sustainable Domestic and Export Shipping Approved." These pallets are made in the USA of pre- and post-consumer wood waste; they are cradle to cradle certified as sustainable and considered source reducing.   • Dordan is now a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. The SPC is an industry working group inspired by cradle to cradle principles and dedicated to transforming packaging into a system that encourages economic prosperity and a sustainable flow of materials.   • Dordan Manufacturing is now a subscriber to the Sustainable Packaging Coalitions' life cycle analysis comparative assessment tool COMPASS, which provides life cycle inventory industry data for various packaging materials, conversion processes, and end-of-life treatments. This tool provides our R&D/engineering teams with the necessary information to design innovative packaging solutions that are both cost effective and reduce the burden of packaging on the environment through material reduction strategies, informed design practices and supply chain collaboration.

  • Dordan Manufacturing's certified 70% PCR RPET clamshell passes the third-party, peer review process for entry into the packaging supplier database on greenerpackage.com. This database requires that packaging suppliers provide documentation supporting their environmental claims, therefore working to eliminate greenwashing within the industry.
