Dordan Invests in New Formech HD 1000c-T Prototyping Press to Support Medical Packaging Development

Dordan Manufacturing recently installed a new prototyping press—the Formech HD 1000c-T—as part of our continued investment in packaging development capabilities. This equipment upgrade enhances our ability to support customers, particularly those in the medical device industry, who often require multiple prototype iterations as part of their design and validation process.

As a full-service thermoform packaging supplier, Dordan offers in-house design, tooling, thermoforming, and cleanroom manufacturing. Prototyping is a key part of this process, especially for applications with tight functional and regulatory requirements.

Our previous prototyping equipment had limitations, particularly in simulating how material behaves in production. The new Formech HD 1000c-T addresses these challenges.

Unlike our older press, it includes:

  • Automated heating and forming, producing more consistent results

  • Assist plug functionality, which helps better distribute material and mimic real-world forming conditions

  • A forming process that closely reflects our production lines, improving the accuracy of prototype evaluation

These improvements allow us to generate more representative prototypes, which can improve confidence in design decisions and reduce delays during later stages of development.

Supporting Medical Packaging Requirements

The new press was selected with our medical packaging customers in mind. These projects typically involve iterative design changes, functional testing, and validation—all of which benefit from prototype parts that closely resemble final production quality.

As an ISO 13485:2016 certified manufacturer with an ISO Class 8 cleanroom, Dordan is familiar with the expectations medical customers bring to packaging development. The Formech HD 1000c-T helps us meet those expectations more effectively.

Dordan CEO and President, Daniel Slavin explains, "This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the services we offer. By expanding our prototyping capabilities, we’re better equipped to support customers through early-stage design and development—before tooling is finalized and production begins."

We’ll be sharing more about the press and how it’s being used in upcoming projects. In the meantime, we’re excited to bring this new capability into our process.
