What to know when developing medical tray packaging

There are two standard formats for medical packaging, pouches and thermoformed trays. Thermoformed trays offer product protection and orientation, workflow organization (if a procedural kit), and ease and grace of opening. Pouches provide a sterile barrier, but do not provide the same structural protection to medical products, nor do they offer a controlled opening experience, when compared with thermoformed trays.

Dordan thermoformed ALGIX's algae plastic in 2010, as part of its sustainable plastics research. The material was comprised of 15% algae, 85% PP. The algae acted as a filler, reducing the amount of plastic needed per application.

Third-generation siblings offer COVID-19 protection to small companies

The first half-of-a-million face shields that Dordan produced were for hospitals. During that time, we were contacted by many small businesses and manufacturers that did not need thousands of shields, but a few hundred. Because these shields were being manufactured to fill a custom order, we were unable to sell to the smaller firms looking to procure face shields for their employees returning to work.
